'I spent many hours of my childhood drawing these street maps of what the Hutt Valley felt like to me, although never a true cartographic representation.
The map reflects suburbia with its endless streets and repetitive structure which was my childhood view of the Hutt'
Judge's Comments:
'In ‘Dwelling’, Jennifer is capturing the Kiwi suburban quarter-acre sections, houses and wide streets merging into smaller ones.
This was her first work on a round canvas, and she drew from the centre to the edge with a very fine pen, the view from above, in Indian ink on acrylic and wood.
From a distance the texture and pattern are reminiscent of snakeskin or tortoiseshell – until you move closer'
Judge's Comments:
'This disc floats like a planet in black space, covered in dense mapping of single dwellings and roads over the entire surface.
It speaks strongly of the nature of our urban environments and their relationship to the overall world in which we live'
